Class description

Polynation will show you how they incorporate acoustic drums and other live sound sources (field recordings, recorded instruments and synthesizers) into their electronic productions to create music with an organic sound and feel. They will talk and demonstrate with live drums about how they record their drums and sounds, show you Ableton techniques to get creative with these recordings and how you can create more organic sounding drum grooves.

Biography

Dutch producer-duo Polynation stormed the scene in 2015 with their lustrous debut EP Allogamy. Adopting both rhythmic tension and a wide range of acoustic and electronic tools, Stijn Hosman and Hessel Stuut gradually translated their intricate studio finesse to the more improvisational, spontaneous dynamic of live performance. In the process, tracks like ‘Why You’ and ‘Anther’ amassed wide international acclaim, earning airplay by Gilles Peterson on BBC6 and performing festivals like Amsterdam Dance Event, Best Kept Secret, Fusion and Pitch Festival. In May 2019, Polynation’s full-length debut Igneous was released on Atomnation – a product of two laborious years of studio tinkering that introduced a more cinematic, sweeping departure from the fine-tuned alchemy of techno, experimental pop, and ambient established on debut EP Allogamy. The album received widespread praise in the press and was followed by playing festivals and clubs all over Europe in cities like Istanbul, Paris and Bucharest as well as Dutch festival highlights like Wildeburg and Eilân, seamlessly developing Polynation into an immersive multi-sensory live experience, indulging as much in sheer impulse and crowd interaction as the more intricate, widescreen arrangements.

Polynation has been teaching music production for many years and has given workshops and masterclasses for Ableton Live, ADE, No Man’s Land, Conservatorium Den Haag among others.
